American Dream is a harmonically colourful composition, propelled by a passionate and lush compass. The song skilfully combines several Americana genres in a way that is unique to the band. With a twinkle in its eye, the song tells the story of a gorgeous 1967 American slave emptying his pockets of every last dollar.

It’s the final single from AT’s Roots & Ramblin’ third album Teased Up!, out on 4 April, which slyly places the band’s traditional roots in a whole new 2020s context. Rock’n roll is certainly no museum music when you know how to present it in a stylistically conscious way.

AT’s Roots & Ramblin’ is a young and energetic trio, with their own unique sound and fresh touch of rock’n’roll.

The band released their debut album “Notes From The Backwoods” in May 2019 and toured in Sweden with Fatboy and at the Rockabilly Rave festival in England.

At the end of 2021, the band released their second album “Golden Lane”, an intact collection of traditional rock, swing, jazz, big band, roots, country and rhythm’n’blues music. The album relies on big arrangements and a stripped-down, yet massive, soundscape. The album’s singles “Sticks & Stones with Hannu Kiviaho from FATBOY”, “New Doll”, “Smokey Page Bettie” and “House of the Grooves” have found their way onto the biggest Spotify playlists both at home and abroad (including the “Rockabilly Mania” playlist, which often reaches half a million listeners) and have been played on radio stations around the world.

For Christmas 2022, AT’s Roots & Ramblin’ also released a four-song Christmas EP of original music, which is available on streaming services.

Most recently, the band has released the singles “Ideas of Love”, “King John” and the double single “Whole Lot of Tricks/Didn’t Ask Much”. These can be found on Spotify and other streaming services.

The band’s third album TEASED UP! will be released on 4 April 2025.

Two big names in the Finnish indie return

Indie rock great Joosua, who retired in 2017, will once again come to the rescue of Finnish indie. The band’s hit “Sudenkorento” is neo-renaissance with Lauri Haav’s song “Mua ei voi pelastaa” sampled and trending at Tiktok. “Annoit mut pois” is the band’s latest single and picks up where the band left off in 2017, a comeback no one knew they deserved.

Mara Balls to release new album, Virtaa in June

Power is Mara Balls’ fourth full-length album.
The release date is Friday 7 June and the album will be released in LP and CD formats, as well as on all streaming services.

“Power is a soothing spring water flowing down from the mountain; it’s a relief, comfort and hope that helps you keep moving forward,” describes Mara.
The vinyl is clear translucent, like the aforementioned spring water.

But it’s also a rock record with a lot of sinew, which can be used for a variety of moods. Some might talk about wine that gets better with age, but Maria Mattila prefers to use the metaphor of flowing water.

The Uncle Knuckle album starts with the Troglodyte trilogy, which is a bone-chilling album from the start: not many Finnish artists could credibly send out this kind of sound mischief and mischief. After the trilogy, Knucklebone Oscar hands the torch to keyboardist-singer Tuomo Prättälä, who is known from the duo Tuomo & Markus, among others, and interprets the I’ve Got To Use My Imagination cover made famous by Gladys Knight and the Pips as if it were his own, with Knucklebone Oscar’s guitar solos taking part in the soulful dialogue. Other guests on the album’s tracks include Marjo Leinonen of Balls fame, Finnish roots music icon Eero Raittinen, Molly Moonstone of visual and burlesque fame, singer Ina Forsman and singer-songwriter Tuure Kilpeläinen with her beautifulrendition of Luther Ingram’s soul classic (If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want To Be Right.

According to Knucklebone Oscar, the new album is a kind of theme album and a collection of different sounds, styles and songs that he has been a fan of and has composed himself throughout his 30-year career. The fist has been infused with intense aromas and moods from different parts of the world, musicians and musical styles.
– It’s liberating, exciting and even scary to push this album out. It’s been so long since the last Knucklebone album that I don’t really know what people expect, or even what I think. Other than, “Thank God it’s here and done!”, Knucklebone Oscar breathes a sigh of relief.

– This is something of a summary of Knucklebone Oscar’s past, present and perhaps future. A modern blues manifesto that doesn’t exactly sound like the blues! My “friends and family” album: a 50-year-old rocker’s mid-term review of everything that’s been done, Knucklebone Oscar continues to open the album’s red wire wrapping.

– The celebrity gig was celebrated in a loud houlama-hulabalooza in advance a week ago (On The Rocks in central Helsinki on 31 March) and the band that will be playing the gigs, King Kong, is in high spirits and the whole thing is in sharper gear than perhaps ever before. While the live show is not the same as the album, and especially for this album, there are echoes of each other and resonance on both sides.

Knucklebone Oscar will tour with the new Uncle Knuckle album and the King Kong band from spring onwards at release shows around Finland. The Uncle Knuckle album is released and the shows are sold by Stupido Records.

Problems singles on vinyl – Hokkus Pokkus new single from Mara Balls

Problems’ single collection is the first in a series of Finnish punk rarities

Problems Singles 1978-1983, created by Tumppi Varonen since the 1970s, is the first part of a series of Finnish punk and new wave singles on vinyl.

Nowadays, these once commonplace singles can cost up to thousands of euros each, so for most people the only way to get them home on vinyl is through reissues.

Packaged in gatefold sleeves and printed on pink vinyl, the collection comes with full information and commentary on the songs by the band’s founder, Tumppi.

After Problems, the Finnish punk & new wave singles collection will feature Pelle Miljoona, Eppu Normaali, Woude and Sehr Schnell.

The first part of the collection is dedicated to the memory of Problems’ founding member Ari Taskinen. The series is published by Stupido Records in collaboration with PNV Records in the US.

Tumppi Varonen & Problems will celebrate the release of the collection by playing their special old songs at Paasitorn’s Pääsiäispunk event on Sat 30.3.

The compilation CD will be released in a couple of weeks.
